Best in Season: Masterclasses in Sustainable Floristry
By Florists, For Florists.

Invitations for Expressions of Interest to lead a demo or workshop

Deadline: Friday 3rd April, midnight.

In 2026, I am looking to programme a series of events for florists, by florists, that utilise existing skillsets within our community to nurture sustainable approaches to floristry more widely. I am inviting industry professionals who connect with these aims and have a particular skill that they are confident in teaching, to register their interest to lead others in a how-to workshop or demonstration. In particular, I am looking to programme sessions on sustainable versions of floristry mechanics. Large and small scale constructions welcome - costs and practicalities can be figured out!

Please read the copy below for more info on the series content and aims. If this sounds like something you’d like to contribute to, please fill in the form below to register your interest.

Key details:

All workshops and demonstrations will be 2 hours long.

You will receive a fee of £150, equivalent to £50 per hour, with 1 hour for any planning/set-up.

Amy will be responsible for all ticket sales, promotion, etc.

Currently, the plan is that the events will be held in a studio in the West end of Glasgow, and that they will be on Tuesdays late morn-lunchtime. If this timing is impossible for you, please state what would work better.

Expenses for any materials will be covered by Amy/attendees.

Why run this programme?

These Masterclasses are for florists who:

  • Are keen to better understand what seasonality means in Scotland, and what’s in season when

  • Want to give up floral foam but aren’t confident in alternative mechanics

  • Would like to source flowers more locally but aren’t sure how it works (in contrast to ordering from the market)

  • Feel overwhelmed or confused by what steps they could take to make their work practices more eco-friendly

  • Want to learn from their peers and feel part of a local community

Most of us are aware that humans must change their ways if we are to survive on this planet. But what does that look like for the floristry industry? How can florists make a meaningful impact to slowing climate change?

Words like ‘seasonal’ and ‘local’ are thrown around to soothe our evermore environmentally-aware customer base, but many of us are unclear on what those words should mean in practice. Floristry schools and industry standards have lagged behind their responsibility to offer us truly ecological options. Online spaces are often reduced to pointing fingers and shifting blame. Instead, I want to create a supportive environment to nurture each other and transform floriculture.

At the Best in Season Masterclasses, we bring together local experts to share the skills that already exist within pockets of our community. Glasgow has a long history of doing things differently, drawing from the collective power of working people and caring for each other and our future. By collectivising our support, we are more likely to develop our skills and cultivate long-term change. The concept of these Masterclasses was devised in direct opposition to the current model of very expensive, one-off workshops for individuals.

A blend of demonstrations and practical workshops, the programme will feature a range of specific sustainable floral mechanics. We will be using entirely Scottish-grown flowers, with Amy giving profiles to each flower and their place in that season. There will be plenty of space to ask questions, pool knowledge and connect with other florists.

Prices are kept intentionally low to combat the current trend of industry workshop prices, which mean that only the most wealthy can afford to develop their practice and learn about sustainable floristry. Please select the tier that correlates with your financial situation.

Furthermore, there are also two bursary places at every event. These are for those whose financial situation is such that they couldn’t otherwise afford to attend any training (e.g. because of childcare costs, additional travel costs, time off work, etc). Please email Amy directly to book in your bursary spot. No questions asked.
